In today’s rapidly changing world, Multi Civil Contractors Limited continues to set itself apart by placing a high value on human relationships and trust, creating a positive work environment and investing in the latest gear and machinery.

Born, bred, and based in Wellington, Multi Civil was formed in 1992, and with more than 30 years in operation, they’ve become one of the largest and more diverse civil subcontracting firms in the Wellington region.

Multi Civil director Cody Pepere is an essential part of the solid team of 50 who specialise in demolition, earthworks, drainage, and site works. Speaking of the hardworking crew, Cody says, "People are our greatest asset — if it wasn’t for our great team and subcontractors, we could never complete the projects we do."

He adds that Multi Civil is all about helping people reach their full potential, believing that offering support, being honest, having a positive attitude, and keeping open communication is what matters most. By demonstrating these values, they look to create a bright future for our future generations.

Multi Civil’s positive approach internally extends to all their client connections as well, known for creating strong, long-lasting partnerships based on trust, which is why they’ve long been an integral contractor within the Lower North Island civil contracting industry.

"We’re a local Wellington business with a passion for what we do and take immense pride in our work," says director Richard Potter.

Striving to always be a leader in their specialist industries has placed them on many varied and complex projects in the Wellington region, including seismically strengthening the iconic and historic St Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in the Wellington CBD, which earned them honours at the CCNZ National Awards.

Varied projects take a diverse fleet of machinery and Multi Civil does not fall short when it comes to their equipment, although what’s called upon most is their fleet of excavators, ranging from one to 38 tonnes.

When it comes to their capability to complete projects, be it inside a small, confined space or commencing bulk excavation and drainage works for new development, Richard says they are dedicated to using the most efficient tools available.

The introduction of the D-Lock Couplers and D-Lock Tilt hitches from Doherty Couplers and Attachments is an example of their focus on efficiency, and as a result, this has greatly increased productivity.

"Tilt hitches have helped on our earthworks projects for batters and final trimming the site," says Cody. "They’ve also been fundamental on our drainage projects for trenching and backfilling."

The Doherty hitches have been a hit within the team, with Cody receiving only positive feedback and "they’re now fitted on several machines and used across multiple projects," he says.

Due to the shortage of skilled workers joining the industry, a further addition to Multi Civil’s equipment has been the use of Topcon 3D GPS machine control to aid them in completing larger earthworks and site works projects more efficiently.

Technology is something Cody believes has changed significantly in the earthmoving industry, and Multi Civil has taken advantage of the technological advances for health and safety and quality assurance purposes.

"Along with Doherty’s DH coupler range and the 3D GPS, we’ve found taking onboard a paperless system with the use of iPads gives us better information for tracking our team’s paperwork."

Cody reiterates, "It’s important to embrace the latest technological advances in a rapidly changing industry. Our big investments in gear, machinery, and attachments combined with the high value we place on our people is the fundamental reason we excel."
