Terra Cat has launched a podcast about how the earthmoving industry shapes New Zealand

Terra Cat has launched a podcast about how the earthmoving industry shapes New Zealand. Named ‘Breaking Ground’, the podcast shares the stories and experiences of characters in the industry, says general manager marketing and customer experience Darren Sandford.

"There’s sometimes a public perception that these industries just shift dirt, when the reality couldn’t be further from the truth."

"We want to celebrate how the industry uses incredible technology to deliver amazing projects – literally moving mountains - through the stories of people who’ve played a part."

The April episode featured Wanaka’s Allan Dippie. He’s the owner of a successful family business operation spanning multiple enterprises throughout Otago and Southland, including Central Machine Hire. Allan’s also the founder of the Wheels at Wanaka show, a vintage machinery enthusiast and has a passion for car racing.

And in May, the team will talk to Stan Goodman, managing director of Goodman Contractors on the Kapiti Coast near Wellington. Previous guests include Terra legend Steve Templer, surveyor Martin Hewitt and machine operator Olivia Thomson.

Darren’s conversations with customers about how long they spent driving and how podcasts were their preferred way of passing the time helped spark the idea for the show.

"They were also really interested in how other businesses in their industry overcame shared challenges but had no easy way to find out this information," says Darren.

Breaking Ground is available on Spotify and Apple podcasts or at plainsfm.org
