Alex’s journey with Kobelco spans over three decades and is marked by an unwavering trust in the brand’s reliability. His connection with Kobelco began in 1988 when he started operating their machines while working for HEB Construction.

Even back then, Kobelco had already made a lasting impression on him. The reason was simple, reliability. At that time, HEB Construction exclusively stocked Kobelco machines, and Alex quickly discovered why.

"Operating Kobelcos for HEB Construction, I found them to be consistently reliable machines," Alex recalls. "This unwavering reliability was a defining factor that helped set Kobelco apart from the competition."

The natural choice

In 1996, Alex embarked on a new chapter by establishing his business, Corbett Contractors. When it came time to select equipment that would drive his business forward, Alex says there was no hesitation. He naturally gravitated towards Kobelco.

He started out with the K907 model. His trust in Kobelco was firmly rooted in his previous experience. "My experience operating Kobelcos for HEB Construction was that they were always reliable machines, and I saw no reason to change," Alex states.

Complex projects

Over the years, Corbett Contractors has undertaken a wide range of projects, each presenting unique challenges. Among them, one project stands out vividly in Alex’s memory — the excavation work for the new Vector Wero Whitewater Park in Manukau.

This undertaking was no ordinary task; it required precision, expertise, and, most importantly, reliability. "The complexity of the project arose from the need to ensure that the canal was constructed correctly," Alex explains.

"We had to dig out a substantial pond and handle a significant volume of earth multiple times. We stabilised the soil and eventually lined it with concrete. It was a massive undertaking for our team."

Throughout this ambitious project and many others, Kobelco machines consistently proved their mettle. Their reliability and performance were instrumental in the successful completion of challenging tasks.

The SK55SRX-7: elevating efficiency and comfort

The SK55SRX-7 is the latest addition in Corbett Contractors’ fleet

Most recently, Alex and his team made another addition to their fleet, acquiring an SK55SRX-7. This latest acquisition, handed over in August, represents the latest chapter in Alex’s enduring partnership with Kobelco.

The Series 7 mini excavator comes equipped with impressive features that align perfectly with Corbett Contractors’ commitment to reliability and efficiency, says Alex.

Kobelco New Zealand sales rep for South Auckland, Clive Forrester, knew the new 5.5-tonne machine was the right choice for Alex. "One standout feature of the SK55 is its above-class breakout force.

This attribute is a game-changer for the industry, allowing for quicker and more efficient digging. With this increased power, Corbett Contractors can complete their projects faster and exceed client expectations," Clive explains.

"Moreover, the 5.5-tonne compact tail swing digger prioritises driver comfort and minimises fatigue," Clive adds. Its spacious cab helps provide a more comfortable working environment for operators, ensuring they can focus on the job at hand without unnecessary discomfort, especially during long hours on the construction site.

Another advantage of the SK55 is its boom articulation and the ability to swing the boom more freely in either direction. The enhanced manoeuvrability translates into improved performance and greater flexibility on the job site, says Alex.

The trust endures

Alex and Corbett Contractors continue to rely on Kobelco machines for their projects.
"Kobelco has been a good brand for us," Alex affirms. His unwavering trust in the brand is
a testament to the machines’ solid performance and reliability.

For Alex and Corbett Contractors, the journey with Kobelco is more than a business decision; it’s a demonstration of the enduring partnership between a contractor and the machines that power their success.
