Balkrishna Industries Ltd (BKT) has been awarded the Port Tyre Manufacturer of the Year at the 2016 Terminal Operator Excellence Awards in Dubai.

The Terminal Operator team visited BKT's new production site at Bhuj and rated the plant as the best with a high level of process automation and strict adherence
to process control.

"Recently, TRS took 15 customers on a tour through BKT's new off-highway tyre plant in Bhuj, located in the state of Gujarat, India," Ivan Burrows, key account manager for TRS Tyre and Wheel, says.

"Based on 312 acres of land at a cost of half a billion US dollars, it was impressive to see BKT's dedication to product development, continual technological advancement, and desire to be the recognised global leader in all off-highway tyre solutions."

Available from TRS, the BKT industrial tyre range offers a complete tyre package for port operations, including the Portmax PM 90 for reach stackers, Portmax PM 93 for straddle carriers, and Liftmax LM 81 for forklifts.

"The Portmax radial range helps to significantly reduce fuel consumption, thanks to its low rolling resistance and ability to dissipate heat, making it well-suited to cyclic operations on ports," Ivan says.

BKT produces a range of more than 2000 off-highway tyres and say they release around 150 new sizes annually, with many of these being incorporated into the New Zealand market; the brand, they say, having grown to become the largest selling agricultural tyre brand in New Zealand.
