The shear was recently put to use by Auckland-based scrap dealer Endless Metals. Operating at the company’s Onehunga depot, the Fortress FS35R mobile shear is being used to pre-size scrap metal and it has been paired with a 20-tonne Hyundai excavator.

"We’ve previously dry-hired our shears and excavators on an as-needed basis," says Neil Stavely of Endless Metals. "Our shear operator has gained a heck of a lot of valuable experience across a wide range of shear brands. In his view, the FS35R is the best shear he has ever operated."

According to the Fortress Shearcore Australasian supplier, there are a number of good reasons why it’s the best. These include some significant performance benefits, such as extra cutting power, trouble-free operation, and increased production.

Additionally, the FS35R is 1000kg lighter than its nearest rival, helping make it probably the most efficient option in its class, the brand says.

Being able to achieve that level of performance with just a 20-tonne excavator, instead of a heavier and more expensive 40-tonne machine, is also a significant bonus for the Endless Metals team.

"We now have a number of the shears operating throughout Australasia and without exception, the client feedback has been fantastic," says Paul Herbison of Boss Attachments.

Shearcore was founded in 2014 by Bruce Bacon who had previously played a major role in the development of both the La Bounty and Genesis shear ranges, so the company has an unrivalled pedigree in shear development.

The FS range is a mobile shear with an optional rotating head and features innovative engineering with an optimised structure that delivers long life and high strength-to-weight structure.

The range also features a significantly enlarged pivot group that eliminates the need for auto guide, which improves performance and durability, the manufacturer says.

These features, combined with Shearcore’s advanced manufacturing techniques and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, are proven to deliver the power and performance that industry professionals demand.

"These Fortress Shears are in a class of their own, so if you’re looking at options to cut operating costs and increase productivity, talk to us today," says Paul.
