In addition to hose and mechanical repairs Heavy Hose and Attachments will supply DigMax attachments

Heavy Diesel Services Ltd and Means Equipment Traders Ltd have joined forces to form Heavy Hose and Attachments. Vincent John Cooper, or V. J as he’s known, started Heavy Diesel Services seven years ago, servicing the agricultural and construction industry in the Hawke’s Bay region.

He met Phil Means who was running a hydraulic workshop in the area and a friendship was struck over common interests: cars, hunting, and boxing.

V. J started in the industry 18 years ago at the Alan Davies Farm Machinery Services business in Waipukurau before moving across to Gough Cat, where he worked overseas for the company in the Solomon Islands and the Napier workshop, carrying out all manner of repairs and servicing.

It was working closer to home with Barker Contracting, where V. J decided to have a go on his own, building himself a solid reputation as a fine mechanic by setting high standards and pride in quality customer service.

Phil completed his mechanical apprenticeship in Whanganui at Viper Machinery, where he worked on whatever came through the door. His work pedigree includes CablePrice, AB Equipment, Gough Cat, HireQuip, as well as Porter Equipment and Parkland Products.

"Along with being a qualified greenkeeper, I’ve worked with some great people and have made some great friendships along the way and learned so much. I have a real passion for the earthmoving industry and the people in it," says Phil.

In addition to the hose and mechanical repairs being carried out under the new Heavy Hose and Attachments venture, V.J and Phil have signed a deal to supply DigMax attachments, ground engaging teeth, cutting edges, rock breakers, long reach booms, and anything else that fits on a modern excavator.

"DigMax is the only supplier of the twin-cylinder Clamp bucket that allows full use of the bucket. Screening buckets and rock breakers have been in use on a wind farm construction project in Hawke’s Bay and have clocked up many trouble-free hours," says Phil.

Part of the DigMax range includes Futura bucket teeth, with a hammerless retaining system to fit all Cat J-Series adaptors. "These are already in use in a busy quarry application in Hawke’s Bay, with outstanding results for long wear life," says Phil.

"DigMax has also supplied numerous custom-built attachments at affordable pricing, and they have made it easy for us, with most stock available locally in Hawke’s Bay, eliminating long wait times and costly freight bills," says Phil.

Next on the list for the team is the finalisation of a regional dealership with Magnum Equipment to sell and service Hidromek excavators, which Phil believes are the best-made machines on the market. "Our goal is to supply quality products and quality service in the Hawke’s Bay region," says Phil.
