The NZ Trucking Association (NTA) team recently announced that the SafeT360 programme run from the newly refurbished Road Safety Truck has been shortlisted for the Australasian Fleet Champions Awards 2023.

Emulating the phenomenal success of the SafeT360 programme in Australia by the Australian Trucking Association, the life-saving programme was adopted in New Zealand by NTA.

Focussing on 16- to 25-year-old drivers, who in New Zealand are overrepresented in road fatalities and serious injuries, SafeT360 puts them in a virtual driver’s seat to show them how to stay safe on the road and provides know-how and insight not normally available from learner driver literature.

Each person who experiences SafeT360 is intended to be a safer road user, after gaining the knowledge that trucks take longer to stop, need more room to turn, when passing trucks they need a long clear road ahead, the dangers of distraction, and other tips about how to keep themselves and others safe around trucks.

"We feel very proud to be recognised for our commitment to keeping everyone safe around heavy vehicles and thank the Australian Trucking Association for allowing us to share this life-saving programme in New Zealand," says David Boyce, CEO of NZ Trucking Association.

"None of this would be possible without our major sponsors and supporters: Team Global Express, Penske, NZI, Z Energy, BP, 3M, TR Group, and Teletrac Navman."
