Following on from their commitment in November 2021 to provide 10 million Euros to support the World Carbon Neutrality Forum and promote climate cooperation between countries,

China-based commercial transportation and technology company Giga Carbon Neutrality (GCN) recently announced that it has secured a contract to supply 200 hydrogen and battery electric heavy trucks and associated engineering machinery from an administrative division of Ordos City in Inner Mongolia.

The trucks will be produced in a strategic partnership with Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG) and Sunrise Power at a newly-built clean energy commercial vehicle production facility in Ordos City, China.

"This a milestone deal for GCN and clean energy commercial transportation," says GCN CEO Marty Wade. The deal is believed to be the largest signed by any supplier for hydrogen and battery EV trucks to date and when completed, will make GCN a leading provider of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles worldwide.

Around NZD$530 million will be invested by the partners to establish the new assembly plant, which will make the clean energy vehicles, hydrogen power systems, and ancillary equipment for customers in China and further afield. The new production plant is expected to be completed in 2023, although, the first of the 200 vehicle order is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2022.
