Komatsu calls for next intake of apprentices

Komatsu apprentice 1 Komatsu Australia is now taking registrations for their apprenticeship programme, with applications opening on 1 July Komatsu apprentice 1

Applications for Komatsu’s award-winning apprenticeship programme are now open

The company is encouraging people from all backgrounds to consider applying.

"The programme is designed in a way that by the time apprentices complete the programme, they’ve achieved a competency level that would take an additional year for apprentices trained in other standard programmes to achieve," says Janine Gurney, general manager — strategic capability at Komatsu Australia.

"We’re really equipping the next generation in our industry with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their field. "The apprenticeship doesn’t just focus on technical on-the-job skills.

We focus on other skills outside of the core programme, such as mental health awareness, public speaking, road safety and fatigue management, drug and alcohol awareness, and business skillsets.

This means that an apprenticeship with Komatsu can open doors to various career pathways, not just within Komatsu but right across our industry.

From maintenance managers to business leaders, product specialists to national capability managers, an apprenticeship with us can take you anywhere and keep your career moving forward," Janine says.

The apprentice programme is managed through the Komatsu Training Academy, which has two state-of-the-art, purpose-built education centres in Brisbane and Perth.

"Apprentices spend the first three weeks at our training academy, learning from our training experts.

The workshops are specifically designed to deliver hands-on training for both construction and mining class machines, ensuring that students gain practical skills and experience.

Our training facilities also incorporate a number of simulators, so trainees can safely learn on a range of machines from small utility machines right up to an ultra-class mining machine.

"We’re encouraging people from all backgrounds to consider applying, from school leavers to those looking for a career change. It doesn’t matter what gender or age you are or if you have any industry knowledge.

If you have an interest in learning more about the machines and the technology that support our construction and mining sectors, then perhaps a Komatsu apprenticeship is right for you."
