Product feature: Doosan DX380LC-6 excavator

The Doosan DX380LC has performance specifications comparable to a 50-tonne excavator and comes with a factor warranty of four years or 8000 hours

Outstanding features and exceptional value is the only way to describe the new 40-tonne DX380LC-6 excavator, says distributors AB Equipment

Auckland-based Kidd Contracting would agree with that because after a quick trial, they purchased one on the spot.

The specs of the new Doosan DX380LC-6 interested Kidd Contracting when they enquired about purchasing a machine in the 40–50-tonne class. New Zealand distributor AB Equipment agreed to demo the machine and for Kidd Contracting operator Luke Bullock to put it through its paces.

At an operating weight of 40 tonnes, its distributors say the Doosan DX380LC has performance specifications comparable to a 50-tonne excavator, and being nimble means it has the advantage of achieving higher productivity with superior cycle times.

While this is the first model to reach New Zealand shores, the machine is said to have taken off big time in Australia.

The model features a split cooling system, with hydraulic cooling on a separate radiator and an on-demand hydraulic fan. Pump flows and pressures can be programmed from the monitor and the machine will engage a two-pump flow if required.

The hydraulic pumps produce 720 litres per minute outperforming heavier weight class machines, says AB Equipment. The resulting hydraulic horsepower is reflected in the lift capacities, which are said to be comparable to 50-tonne class machines, as are the reach parameters, combining with the faster cycle times.

With a ROPS cabin, auxiliary piping, quick hitch, a 10-light package, and a standard factory warranty of four years or 8000 hours, AB Equipment says it is the reason more Doosans are being seen throwing dirt and lifting pipes across the countryside.

According to Luke, a big feature of the Doosan DX380LC is the proportional slider switches on the joysticks that provide increased controllability for the auxiliaries.

"I’ve only been driving it for a short period of time but one of the biggest differences from previous machines is that it is has a very smooth feel through all the levers," he says.

The Doosan DX380LC is also fitted with Calibre twin ram tilt-hitch. "Even when I multi-function while simultaneously using the tilt, the machine does not slowdown in any aspect."

Luke says. "The cab is bigger than anything I’ve driven before, and it’s a great set-up with my stereo positioned behind my seat so that I can listen to it all day long."
