Last month SsangYong released a new ute to replace their Musso ute. Over the last few years, the Musso ute has earned an excellent reputation for reliability and value for money. The Musso was based on well proven, but now outdated, Mercedes engine and transmission technology.
The new four-door Actyon (pronounced "Action") sports ute is immediately recognisable by its shark like snout - a new bonnet line that is different, distinctive and modern. The styling is based on SsangYongs new small SUV the Actyon on which the new ute is based.
The new Actyon Sports Ute is powered by SsangYong's latest technology 2-litre common rail, direct injection, turbocharged diesel engine which produces 104Kw@4000rpm and 310Nm torque at 2250rpm. It will drive through a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic and will be available in both two- and four-wheel drive, with a low ratio.
The new sports ute has double wishbone suspension at the front and a five-link suspension at the rear. Like most modern sports utes, it offers a respectably comfortable ride on the open road.
The Actyon comes with many electronic driver assist programmes like are available for the Actyon sports utility, which will be versatile and capable on slippery road conditions or any off-road areas.
The LSD (limited slip differential) and part-time electronic four-wheel-drive capability on the two top Acyton models place it somewhere between utter fun and serious capability.

The Sports ute has a gross trailer weight (braked) of 2300kg and ranges in price from $34,990 for the XDi 2.0 litre 2WD manual to $46,990 for the SPR automatic.
The Actyon ute was tested by SsangYong in the harsh Australian outback before it was launched here so it is ideally suited to New Zealand conditions.
Another great feature is the fold-flat tailgate that makes it ideal for carrying motorcycles and long loads.
The Sports Range Actyon includes a number of variations of specification from the basic two or four-wheel drive models through to the top-of-the-line SPR which boasts a host of additional features,. These include an electric-adjustable front seat complete with bum warmers. These two comfort zones are not always found on so-called executive saloon cars and will appeal to farmers or chippies on a cold winter's morning.

If you are after a new ute that offers plenty of power and comfort with outstanding value for money take the new SsangYong Actyon for a test drive before you sign up for anything else.
