Hyundai NZ's new Mighty electric-powered truck

Hyundai Mighty electric will be available in two model variants

The latest addition to its fleet of carbon-neutral commercial vehicles follows on from the XCIENT – this country’s first hydrogen-powered heavy truck.

"This early production model allows us to showcase the new all-electric technology to our commercial customers and to test the truck in local conditions and applications," says Hyundai NZ CEO Andy Sinclair.

"We’re excited to show customers how the Mighty electric keeps what people love about the Mighty range while using new technology to reduce emissions and improve safety and efficiency."

The electric version of the Mighty is fitted out with the latest cab design, driving aids, and safety features, with a full air brake system and a wheel-activated parking brake. The range is up to 240km (AER240), utilising ECO mode and the regenerative braking technology that can recover up to 33% of the vehicle’s energy, says Hyundai.

"Just a 20-minute rapid charge, less than the time it would take to load cargo, grants 100km of all-electric range," says Andy.

The Mighty electric has a 120kW/1007Nm traction motor, powered by a 502-volt battery system. It will be available in two model variants – 5995kg and 7200kg GVM – and both will be 4x2 configurations with a 3300mm wheelbase. They will operate in the light-duty truck segment with an approximate cargo capacity between 1845kg and 3500kg, depending on variant and upper body specification.

Series production for the Hyundai Mighty electric is planned to commence in the first quarter of 2023, with final specifications and pricing still to be confirmed.
