Saturday, 14 November was the date for the third annual Nelson Truck Show organised by the Stoke School PTA.
The event is a fundraising activity for the school and the organisers ensure that there are plenty of fun activities for the general public to enjoy as well as the impressive truck line ups themselves.
The Richmond Park Showgrounds provided a new venue for this year and proved to be an ideal setting which had plenty of room for the 80-plus trucks that attended. The only element missing for most part of the big day was the well-renowned Nelson sun, however it did show itself at the end of the afternoon in time for some photographs and the overcast conditions earlier were still pleasant.
One of the unique aspects of this event is that there is no judging or best category prizes other than a People’s Choice award which is voted by the general public. After more than a thousand votes were counted, only two votes separated first and second place. The winner was BCB Contracting’s immaculate T409 SAR Kenworth followed very closely by Tumeke Logging’s equally impressive T659 Kenworth.
With the numbers of trucks this year on the increase, and the sheer numbers of the general public supporting the show, the Nelson Truck Show was again a success and looks set to remain an annual event for some years to come.
