Deals on Wheels visits a contractor in Southland that uses a Yuchai YC85-8 excavator.
When Andrew Miller, of A J & R M Miller Contracting in Waimumu, Southland, first saw the Yuchai YC85-8 excavator at the National Fieldays, he was impressed with the easy layout of the Kubota V3800DI-T diesel engine under the bonnet, and the resultant ease of servicing.
Two years later Miller's existing digger was due for replacement and after researching all the options, he chose a Yuchai YC85-8.
Contracting in Southland, Miller needed some very specific requirements for the swampy conditions he operates in – seven lower track rollers; 600mm track plates; extra-strong, heavy-duty belly guard; long dipper arm; and the blade removed.
Currently, Miller has been operating the digger for a month and is amazed at the outright power and performance the YC85-8 delivers. "So not only does it perform better, but there was a considerable cost saving, and it has no computer to worry about," he says.
Miller is also over the moon with the service provided by Diggalink. After meeting Diggalink's David Pal at the first machine service, Miller was amazed at how good he was. "…one of the best mechanics. He came in to do the first service and at the same time saved me a lot on my Cat bulldozer hydraulic repairs."
