Cambodia is one of South East Asia's most rapidly growing markets for the construction equipment sector. The Cambodian government´s National Strategic Development Plan 2014-2018, includes improvements in roads, water resources and irrigation systems, development of the energy sector and installation of information and communication infrastructure.

With tourism also on the rise, the government is keen to implement the necessary infrastructure to attract foreign tourists to the region including airport improvements, transport links and hotel construction.

For such development, the need for high quality, reliable construction equipment was clear and Volvo Construction Equipment partnered with local heavy equipment dealer, United Mercury Group Co., Ltd. (UMG), to begin selling its range of wheel loaders, backhoe loaders, excavators, articulated haulers, motor graders, pavers and compactors to the market in 2011.

Since entering the Cambodian market, customers have recognized Volvo's superior quality and excellent aftermarket support and it has grown to become the leading brand of construction equipment in just three years.

"At Volvo, we are committed to giving customers the support they need to get the most out of their machines," explains Wilson Shee, business director for Volvo CE in Cambodia.

"This means not only delivering spare parts quickly and efficiently – but also training our technicians to offer on-site service and maintenance support so that our customers' machines are up and running when they need them."

UMG is based in Cambodia's capital city, Phnom Penh, and has strategically located sales and service hubs throughout the largely rural country. "UMG is a Cambodian company with excellent knowledge of the local market, its customers and the local language and culture," Shee continues. "UMG has gone from strength to strength since our partnership began and we have every confidence that this success will continue.

"Volvo's extensive range of wheel loaders and road construction equipment is ideal for helping companies to achieve the government's aspirations of improving its economic and infrastructure development over the coming four years," Shee continues, while he also notes that Cambodia's growing rice and biomass cultivation sectors will be key targets for Volvo.

To celebrate its number one position in the Cambodian market, Volvo CE and UMG hosted a Volvo Aftermarket roadshow last week to demonstrate the aftermarket support that the two companies can offer customers in partnership together.

During the event, approximately 130 customers from 70 companies were introduced to Volvo's full range of attachments, spare parts and service support options. "We are delighted to have achieved the market leading position in Cambodia, and it was a pleasure to show our customers just how dedicated we are to this market," Shee says.
