The work involves both resealing sections of highway, and more localised general rehabilitation work

The NZTA says people should observe speed restrictions and be aware of possible changes in the road layout for the safety of themselves and their passengers, and for the safety of contractors upgrading the highway network.

North of Whangarei

  • SH 11: Whangae Transfer Station, Lemons Hill
  • SH1: Long Hill
  • SH1: Moerewa
  • SH10: Kaeo (north of the town)

South of Whangarei

  • SH14: Tangowahine, Pukeatua
  • SH14: Mangarama
  • SH1: Brynderwyn (north side of hill)
  • SH12: Junction, Tunnel Hill, Pretty Bush

This weekend, Whangarei's SH1 Improvements from SH1/SH14 intersection to SH1/Selwyn Avenue involve lane restrictions. The works may increase journey times. Central Avenue East is to be closed from the 6.00pm on Friday, 8 March, until 3.00pm on Monday, 11 March.

The NZTA also reminds drivers that work continues to upgrade SH1 through Moerewa. Daytime diversions are in place which could impact on travel times.
