The Xcentric XR Ripper range can remove costly blasting requirements for small rural quarries

The Xcentric Ripper Mining Series is a hydraulic excavator attachment designed for the mass extraction of rock in mining, quarrying, concrete demolition, and civil applications and is gaining recognition as the world’s most productive, reliable, and technologically advanced hydraulic ripper, says distributor Boss Attachments.

For Carl Davies, owner of the Corbett Road Quarry at Waihi, where previously a fixed tine static ripper was used, his new Xcentric XR40 Ripper has been an absolute game changer.

"We’re a small rural quarry supplying aggregate for the local building and farming sectors. Blasting isn’t a cost-effective option for us and the fixed ripper method was bloody hard on men, equipment, and budget.

The Xcentric Ripper delivers significant production increases for operators

"Using the XR 40 has made a massive difference to the overall operation and our hourly production is now about four times what we were able to previously achieve. It really is a bit of a beast."

Featuring a patented system of ‘Impact Technology by accumulation of energy’, the Xcentric Ripper is, in most instances, up to five times more productive than hydraulic breakers and has been specially manufactured for high production mining applications where continuous work shifts, reliability, and excavator operator comfort are paramount, its manufacturer says.

Boss Attachments is the Australasian supplier for the Xcentric Ripper range and managing director Paul Herbison says he’s pleased with the reaction the attachment has received from clients in New Zealand.

"The three things that clients consistently remark on are the enhanced safety, the significant performance gains, and massive reductions of up to 50% in operating costs," Paul says.

He adds that the XR has also provided clients with unique operational versatility and lower downtime. "Clients are using these XR Rippers for a wide range of projects and aggregate types. One of them recently remarked that it does everything they were promised, and they keep finding more new things they can do with it."

To date, these projects have ranged from ripping hard schist rock to construct the Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail to reinstatement of new benches to add extra capacity to quarries nearing the end of their working life. It has also proven a winner on projects where reduced access or difficult terrain has been a challenge.

Key Xcentric Ripper design features include

  • Five times more productive
  • Low fuel consumption
  • No daily lubrication needed
  • Low machine downtime
  • Reduced noise and vibration levels
  • Minimum parts wear—boots can last more than 12 months
  • Can be used on standard excavators
  • Full range of models suitable for eight- to 150-tonne excavators

"These Xcentric Rippers increase production at lower operating costs and reduced noise levels and are a revolution for high volume rock extraction and demolition. Simply put, they are a real game changer, particularly for contractors battling with current high diesel prices," says Paul.
