Shaw Diesels’ many years of sales, service, and support throughout New Zealand and the Pacific for the iconic British brand Lister Petter has been rewarded, with Shaw Diesels being appointed the sole authorised New Zealand and Pacific distributor and importer for Lister Petter engines and gensets.

R A Lister and Company was started in 1867 by Robert Ashton Lister to produce agricultural equipment and was soon to be most well-known in the farming sector for its cream separators and sheep shearing equipment exported to New Zealand and Australia—a source of a considerable amount of a growing UK’s primary produce.
Lister diversified into the manufacturing of petrol engines in the early 1900s, with WWI seeing the gearing up of its engine production for the war effort. In 1929, the first of Lister’s own design of ‘CS’ (cold start) diesel engine was produced and painted a mid-range shade of Brunswick Green, the colour that continues to be used by Lister Petter today.
In the early years of the 21st century, small, durable, reliable industrial and marine engines became the company’s key products, notably the ALPHA water-cooled industrial and marine engines and the ‘T’ air-cooled series.

In 1965, Lister was acquired by Hawker Siddeley, well known for their WWII Hawker Hurricane fighter; OK1 was famously flown by New Zealander Air vice-marshal Sir Keith Park.
Lister Petter, as it is now known, was formally formed in 1986, after owner Hawker Siddeley merged Dursley, Gloucestershire-based R A Lister and Company with its old rival Petter Diesels based in Yeovil, Somerset, England.
In the 1990s, the shearing and accessories business was sold to a management buyout, the X- Range Engines that were to become the Detuz 2008 and 2009 were acquired by Deutz AG, and the business restructured to largely what it is today.
Lister Petter, with more than 150 years of experience and development, has been supplying durable and hardworking engines into different customer drive, generation and pumping applications in the agriculture, construction, power generation, disaster recovery, telecommunications, and marine market sectors for decades. Their engines, generating sets, and pumps can be found on every continent and in almost every country in the world with Lister Petter Power Systems manufacturing facility still firmly ensconced in Gloucestershire, South West England.
New Zealand-owned and operated Shaw Diesels has been supplying and servicing agricultural, industrial, and marine diesel and gas engines since 1988 to customers throughout New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific, and the Middle East.
