Part 2 of the Old School Trucks feature on STL Linehaul takes us on a visual journey through the 2000s

In part one of our STL Linehaul feature, we looked at some classic trucks from the ’80s and ’90s. This month, we head into the 2000s with one brand of truck noticeably absent, but more on that later.

The Mack ‘Bulldog’ brand did not make a huge impression within the fleet over the years, but there were still some fine examples. Western Star made some in-roads, with ‘Black Satin’ purchased new in 2007. ‘The Beast’ was an aptly named 8x6 tri-drive.

A big player in the STL fleet over the last couple of decades has been Freightliner, and they certainly look the part in the STL livery. The 2000s saw FLBs enter the fleet and as impressive as the flat cab standard sleepers were, the High Rise versions were even more so.

Freightliner Argosys were the obvious choice to supersede the FLBs and plenty of these made their way into the fleet. Yet again, the High Rise versions took the mantle in the looks department.

The noticeably absent brand in this edition is, of course, Kenworth. Those who know the Pearson family would know that Kenworth has been the brand of choice for many decades.

Next month, we conclude the STL Linehaul series with part three being dedicated to the Kenworth brand and a change of guard for this iconic New Zealand transport company.
