Event: KW100 — some kind of record
Automotive photographer and truck enthusiast Earl Edwards gives us a first-hand account of the KW100 event held in early February 2024
On 1 February 2024, I had a three-day job down at Mystery Creek at the Kenworth 100 show, where I catch up with truck photographer Dean Middleton and get to work with him for Deals on Wheels magazine.
Thursday and Friday saw a modest number of photographers, and it was good to meet a lot of people from the industry, as they brought the immaculate gear in, lining it up designated groups.
There were about 300 trucks by the time I left late on Thursday, but when I arrived the next morning, the numbers swelled dramatically, and by Friday night, there were just under 800 Kenworths (official word was 756 trucks) ready for public viewing on Saturday.
The less-than-ideal weather conditions on Saturday, with strong winds, offset by periods of sunshine, did not dampen the crowds or their enthusiasm for a look around the extensive assembled collection.
Credit must be given to Southpac Trucks for orchestrating such a remarkable event — a testament to the hard work and dedication of all involved. I’m sure with that many Kenworths all parked up, it must be some kind of record for a single brand of truck in one show and one place.
It was a privilege to connect with the legends of the industry and listen to them share stories from the past.
