Work done to the engine below Tested the Cummins ISX engine for causes of excessive fuming from the breather. Confirmed the excessive fuming was caused by worn piston rings. The decision was made to rebuild the engine. Disassembled the engine removing the cylinder head and all pistons and cylinder liners. Cleaned the engine block and checked all components for re-usability. Rebuilt the engine with an inframe engine rebuild kit. Replaced the main crankshaft bearings. Fitted new pistons and cylinder liners with new rings and crankshaft bearings. Replaced the worn engine oil pump. Fitted a reconditioned cylinder head to the engine as supplied with new gaskets and seals. Reassembled the engine and top tuned. Refilled with new oil and coolant. Started and test ran. Road tested the vehicle and rechecked the engine for faults, all ok.

Removed the sump from the engine. removed the oil pump and pick up. Removed the crankshaft big end and main bearing caps. Inspected the crankshaft and bearings, found the crankshaft in a good condition with normal wear to the bearings. Fitted a new set of big end, main and thrust bearings. Torqued all components to spec. Checked the oil pump and found it to be worn. Fitted a new oil pump and refitted the pick up. Refitted the sump with a new gasket. Removed the rocker cover and inspected the camshaft and rockers for wear, all ok. Found the rocker arm on #1 injector had a missing wear foot. Removed the engine brake and rocker shaft and replaced the injector rocker with a good second hand one. Refitted the rocker shaft and top tuned the engine adjusting the valve clearances, injector heights and Jacobs brake settings. Resealed and refitted the rocker covers. Changed the oil and fuel filters and filled the engine with new oil.
