This willbe followed by judging and the awards dinner on 26 November where raconteur Te Radar will be the master of ceremonies.

There’s a new ‘Log Truck Driver’ category added to the line-up, bringing the total number of categories to 15, with the overall Skilled Professional of the Year found from seven of those covering forestry, roading, harvesting, distribution, wood processing, tree faller excellence, women in forestry, and now drivers.

Trainees, health and safety, and the environment are also celebrated in the awards, with categories for each. The event was held for the first time in 2019 and was a huge success but was cancelled last year due to the global pandemic. At the inaugural forestry awards, overall winner Kere Elliott was recognised for her outstanding reputation and commitment to the industry and to the development of her colleagues.

"It’s been an extremely challenging couple of years for our industry, and we trust the lockdowns are behind us and won’t impact the industry further," says Steve Bell, chair of Hawke’s Bay Forestry Group.

"The group wants to see if we can collectively make it happen again and celebrate our achievements over the last two years."
