JAC Motors has officially announced the upcoming launch of its NZ distribution, trading under the Kiwi-owned name, JAC Motors NZ

The business will be introducing two light trucks to the country with a 100% EV variant and its sister, a diesel Cummins variant, both arriving and launching in New Zealand soon, it says.

While JAC is a relatively new player in the New Zealand market, the brand was marketed in this country up until around the early 2010s and has been sold elsewhere for decades, so has established credibility backing its range of light commercial trucks.

The JAC brand was launched in 1964 and developed its first truck in 1968, going on to be a top commercial brand in China, selling passenger and commercial vehicles to more than 100 countries worldwide, the company says.

As the brand rolls out locally in New Zealand, the initial launch sees the appointment of two sales dealerships, a mobile national fleet team, and a nationwide parts and service network providing support.

JAC’s trucks are backed by one of New Zealand’s longest-standing automotive companies who say they are incredibly proud to be introducing innovative brands to New Zealand, offering credible new vehicle options to Kiwis.

With over a decade of automotive and trucking experience, the Kiwi team behind JAC says they’ve spent a lot of time ensuring that the truck models are fit to support New Zealand businesses.

Completing hundreds of hours of test-driving on New Zealand roads, their 100% EV truck has been successfully reaching a real-world city range of 200km with the truck fitted into a body and fully loaded, they say.

Giving a genuine Kiwi range is something that the team wanted to stress as incredibly important with JAC NZ general manager Andrew Craw commenting, "We know the ranges completed through testing don’t always stack up in the real world, especially when it comes to trucks with so many variables, like a box body and carrying heavy loads.

Our team has been driving the trucks around the city fully loaded, and we still haven’t managed to drain the battery in one day yet."

JAC Motors New Zealand says they are looking forward to the full launch of the brand and range of trucks in 2024.
