Event: Wellington Truck and Transport Show 2024

The Wellington Truck and Transport Show is an extravaganza of all things trucking and transport-related

The Wellington Truck and Transport Show is always a highly anticipated event in the region, and it was even more so this year, as it had been four long years since the last show was held in 2020.

The event couldn’t be held in 2021 and 2022 due to COVID restrictions, and just a week before the planned 2023 show, Cyclone Gabriel wreaked havoc over much of the North Island causing yet another cancellation.

There was a nervous wait for the organising committee from the Silverstream Lions Club leading up to the 2024 event, as heavy rain was forecast for the big day. Sunday, 25 February arrived, and while it rained overnight, the morning gave way to the beautiful sun, and it was fine and pleasant for the entire day. 

The day is an extravaganza of all things trucking and transport-related, with trucks, classic car displays, trade and food stalls, a live band, and many family-friendly activities. The 2024 event did not disappoint, with a record number of trucks in attendance.

By 9am, more than 220 trucks had made their way into the picturesque Trentham Memorial Park, most of which were in the convoy starting from Lower Hutt an hour earlier.

A voluntary gold coin was all that was needed to join in on the festivities and the proceeds from the show went to the Life Flight Trust Rescue Helicopter service.

After the dust had settled, more than $16,000 had been raised for this great cause and the Silverstream Lions made a generous donation, bringing the total to $20,000.

While the pleasant surroundings of Trentham Memorial Park make for an enjoyable day, the real kudos must go to the Silverstream Lions, who organise and manage one of the most relaxed and pleasurable events on the New Zealand truck show circuit. 

The standard of the trucks on display was also second to none, with the iconic L&P Kenworth Aerodyne from the Quality Demolition team taking out the converted Truck of the Show award.
