Volvo closes Rokbak

Volvo Construction Equipment has confirmed it's winding down the Rokbak articulated truck line

The decision by Volvo Construction Equipment to discontinue its Rokbak truck line marks a notable shift in the articulated hauler market, particularly for regions where the brand had maintained a steady, if modest, presence.

Rokbak, formerly known as Terex Trucks before its rebranding in 2021, has its roots in Scotland and a long history of manufacturing articulated dump trucks for quarrying, mining, and construction applications. Despite efforts to reposition the brand and modernise its product range, Volvo CE has opted to wind down the line as part of a broader strategic realignment.

In a brief statement, the company indicated the move was intended to streamline operations and focus resources on its core product portfolio. That portfolio includes Volvo-branded articulated haulers, which already compete in the same segment as Rokbak models, raising ongoing questions about overlap between the two ranges.

According to reports, new financed articulated dump truck sales in 2025 were almost eight percent lower than the previous year with 1947 units sold. Rokback made up only 40 of those units.

Industry observers suggest the closure reflects both internal consolidation and external pressures. Demand for heavy equipment remains uneven across global markets, while increasing investment in electrification and low-emission machinery is reshaping development priorities. Maintaining parallel product lines in a relatively narrow segment may no longer have been commercially viable.

The decision is expected to affect production at Rokbak’s manufacturing facility in Motherwell, Scotland, as well as its global dealer network. Volvo CE has stated it will continue to support existing Rokbak machines in the field, including parts supply and servicing, though the long-term implications for residual values and fleet planning remain uncertain.

For contractors and fleet operators, the move removes one of the few remaining alternative brands in the articulated dump truck space. It also reinforces Volvo CE’s intention to consolidate its position under a single brand as the sector navigates a period of technological and economic transition.
