After 10 years of development work, 10 million kilometres of testing, and an investment of approximately three billion NZD, the eagerly-awaited New Truck Generation from Scania was officially released at this year’s New Zealand National Fieldays at Mystery Creek in Hamilton.

New Zealand distributors of the marque, CablePrice, say that in designing the New Truck Generation, Scania put the driver in focus and found the most optimal driver position for best control of the vehicle. Building a prototype driver station, it was possible to move around in the cab to evaluate the most optimal driver position.

The New Truck Generation delivers a new cab range, with an even wider product offering including the new S-cab with flat floor and L-cab—an entirely new low-entry cab series designed for urban environment applications such as local distribution, waste, and construction.

The new Scania truck range also includes an expanded engine range now offering options from the new seven-litre six-cylinder through to the top of the line 730hp V8 with its 3500Nm of torque.

Scania says that around 45% of all fatal truck accidents are rollover accidents and that is why it is offering a side curtain airbag—a first in the industry—in addition to driver’s airbag with seatbelt pre-tensioner, which significantly reduces the risk of injury. Furthermore, CablePrice says, Scania offers numerous safety systems, such as stability control, active emergency braking, EBS, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning.

With this New Truck Generation, CablePrice says it’s clear that Scania is not resting on its laurels. The company is continuously developing new solutions to stay at the forefront of safety, productivity, and driving pleasure.
