German Government subsidises electric trucks
As per reports, Germany’s Federal Gazette published a subsidy policy, which had been submitted by the Federal Ministry of Transport
It has been reported that at the beginning of June, Germany’s Federal Gazette published a subsidy policy, which had been submitted by the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMVI).
To be eligible, the gross weight of each vehicle must be at least 7500kg and it should be either battery-powered or fuel cell-powered.
Subsidies can be sizeable at around $20,000 for e-trucks up to 12 tonnes and $67,000 for trucks more than 12 tonnes. However, large fleet operators are limited to a maximum subsidy of $837,000.
Initial applications will be open for submissions from July 2018, and $16.7 will be available for distribution in the first year.
It is unclear whether New Zealand will follow in the footsteps of Germany and offer subsidies on a similar scale to local purchasers of electric trucks, with industry commentators saying that unless Australia follows suit, it is unlikely Kiwi e-truck regulators will step up.
