Peterbilt launches new Model 579 UltraLoft

Peterbilt Motors Company has introduced the Model 579 UltraLoft to the US market, offering drivers an integrated cab and sleeper design

"The Model 579 has been a huge success for our on-highway customers, and Peterbilt is taking it to the next level," Kyle Quinn, Peterbilt Motors Company general manager and PACCAR senior vice president, says.

Driver experience was said to be a key factor in the design of the UltraLoft, with the new model providing industry-leading storage and comfort. Peterbilt says the UltraLoft gives drivers the largest upper and lower bunk mattresses, best-in-class headroom in both bunks, and some creature comforts of home with space to accommodate the industry’s largest microwave and enough room to fit a 32-inch flat-screen TV.

"Peterbilt’s customers have been asking for a product that maximises the space available in the cab, and the UltraLoft delivers on that request. This makes it an ideal truck for team drivers, training scenarios, and customers who want to maximise aerodynamic performance and driver comfort," Robert Woodall, assistant general manager, sales and marketing, says.

"The first customers to see and test the UltraLoft have provided overwhelming excitement and requested the first available production models."

Improvements are not limited to the driver experience with the new design providing an estimated two percent aerodynamic improvement on efficiency, the company says.

"Throughout the design process, we asked ourselves what is best for the drivers to be the most comfortable and productive. So we added headroom, storage, and improved the overall space to maximise the driver’s experience," Scott Newhouse, chief engineer, says. The Peterbilt 579 UltraLoft is available for order with production scheduled to begin around June 2018.
