Hino GM moves brands

Sime Darby Motor Group NZ will soon be searching for a new general manager of their Hino brand as they prepare for the departure of current incumbent Michael Doeg

It was announced to the company in mid-February that Michael has been promoted to the role of general manager of the Sime Darby’s passenger car retail division and will soon transition across to a market he is familiar with, after having spent many years with General Motors Holden New Zealand division.

Michael’s new responsibilities will see him overseeing five Continental Cars dealerships along with City Nissan based in Auckland’s North Shore.

"There are some new learnings to be had, but the car market is where I spent many years, so there is a degree of familiarity with it as well," Michael says.

The trucking industry was something new to Michael in 2014 when he took up the role of sales and marketing manager with Isuzu New Zealand before swapping brands after being appointed general manager for Hino NZ in 2016.

"Dealing with truck people was a bit of a step into the unknown when I first started with Isuzu, but things progressed well," Michael says.

"I am really going to miss the trucking industry, as there are so many good grassroots people who are part of it."

Michael starts his new role late in March 2018.
