Tesla gets ready to unveil electric truck

Elon Musk announced yesterday that the Tesla Semi is scheduled for an October 26 unveiling.

Elon Musk has moved into his next phase of electric trucks, tweeting yesterday that the Tesla Semi is tentatively scheduled for an October 26 unveiling and test ride at Tesla's Hawthorne, California facility.

The unveiling was originally meant to be carried out during September, but given the scale of the project, a four-week delay has been seen as an understandable say some industry insiders.

Tesla’s electric semi truck is understood to have a range of some 200-300 miles (320-480km). Overseas trucking commentators have said that, with its range the yet-to-be-unveiled truck will be more suited to regional haulage as opposed to the longer interstate routes currently serviced by traditional truck brands.

Specifications for the new vehicle are still a closely guarded secret, and no comment has been made on when Tesla's electric truck will be commercially available.
