Road to success celebrates the first batch of trainees to complete the industry’s newly-created micro-credential qualifications

In last month’s column, I shared that Road to success had just celebrated the first batch of trainees to complete the industry’s newly-created micro-credential qualifications.

The four qualifications—Introduction to Commercial Road Transport, Driver Safety, Mass and Dimensions, and Heavy Combination Vehicle Loading Fundamentals—are a critical part of the Road to success traineeship and are undertaken at the same time as trainees receive on-the-job training and work experience through their new employers.

I am excited to report that three of our Road to success trainees have now completed all four micro-credentials, another six have completed one and are part-way through achieving their second, while 12 more are steadily working through their first.

Recently placed trainees have also begun their first micro-credential over the past month. I’m also pleased that there has been considerable success on the licensing front as well.

All bar two trainees who have been on the programme for six months or more have progressed their licences, with four trainees having already graduated to Class 5 or 5L.

As everyone in the industry will know, the past few months have been extremely hard with Omicron’s spread, staff shortages, and supply chain issues creating a perfect storm for transport operators and drivers.

I cannot emphasise how proud I’ve been of our trainees through all this. Many are pulling long hours in their businesses while completing their online education at the same time. You just know these people are going to do great things in our industry.

If you’re an operator who wants a hand to get an enthusiastic new recruit into your business, please get in touch.

There are plenty of prospective trainees waiting in the wings for an opportunity, so visit the Road to success website (roadtosuccess.nz) and fill out an application form to be part of the programme.
