Winner of the Women in Road Transport Carter’s Tyre Service ‘Show us your Wheels’ Photo Competition announced

I’m pleased to announce that Tania Anderson of Sharp As Linehaul Ltd is the winner of the Women in Road Transport Carter’s Tyre Service ‘Show us your Wheels’ Photo Competition.
Tania’s photo of her DAF’s immaculately shiny hubcap with a workmates truck reflected in it showed real artistic creativity.

Tania’s winning photo

Tania has been in road transport for 25 years and specialises in general freight runs around the North Island-based out of Whanganui. She has even carted ton bags of stones to supermarket fittings.

Needless to say, Tania was absolutely thrilled at winning the competition’s big prize. She was so pumped that she actually said to me, "oh, I’ve even got goose bumps!" From now on, when Tania leaves her DAF at work, she will go home in her Suzuki Swift sporting a brand-new set of tyres, thanks to Carters Tyre Service.

Congratulations Tania! It really is a great photo. I also want to congratulate all our weekly winners—Kelly, Greta, Kate, Kerry, Valda, and Joy—who won Carter’s jackets, and to everyone else who entered.

We had more than 80 entries this year and there were some fantastic photos depicting the many varied freight tasks that New Zealand’s women truck driving heroes are involved in. It was extremely difficult to pick each week’s winners with the standard being so high, so everyone who entered deserves a massive pat on the back.

At the end of the day, seeing your photos on Facebook makes a huge difference to so many women in our industry and will hopefully inspire others to follow in your footsteps. Also, a big thank you to Carters’ Tyre Service for supplying the prizes, judging the entries, and helping make the competition such a success.

Your support means a lot. You can go and see all the photos, including our winners at the Women in Road Transport NZ Facebook page.

Funding grants available

Finally, I am pleased to inform you that Women and Leadership New Zealand is once again offering a great professional development opportunity to women in road transport.

Funding grants are currently available to women who work in the transport and logistics sector to support their participation in a professional development programme and support the development of female leaders across New Zealand’s logistics sector.

The initiative is providing women with grants of between $2500 and $8000 to enable participation in one of three programmes that cover such things as reinforcing resilience and wellbeing, engaging with challenge and conflict, creating future focus, leading authentically, and driving performance.

The scholarship funding is provided with the specific intent of providing powerful and effective development opportunities for transport and logistics sector women but has to be allocated by the end of 2019.

Find out more and register your interest by completing the Expression of Interest form prior to 22 November 2019 on womenandleadership.co.nz/funding.html.
