The 2018 Great Wellington Truck and Transport Show was held on Sunday, 11 March at the Trentham Memorial Park in Upper Hutt

The 2018 Great Wellington Truck had arguably one of the most idyllic venues on the New Zealand truck show circuit. The park has grounds you could almost play lawn bowls on and is surrounded by lush green trees.

More than 100 trucks gathered along Hutt Park road in Petone where the convoy then proceeded to the venue and was parked up just in time for the 9.30am show opening to the general public.

The Wellington weather was on its best behaviour with little to no wind and not a cloud to be seen in the sky throughout most of the day. The rows of immaculately lined up trucks were judged by police officers from the Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit (CVIU) and there could be no doubt as to their credibility when it came to taking a close look at the contenders.

The show was organised by the local Lions Club, who as in previous years, did a superb job of making the day a great spectacle for young and old alike. There were plenty of food stalls, rides, and entertainment throughout the day.

All proceeds raised were donated to the Life Flight Trust, who operate the local Westpac rescue helicopter throughout the Upper South Island and lower North Island. The helicopter flew in to the venue during the day and ensured the public had a close up look at where their proceeds were going.

This year, $15,000,00 was raised for the life-saving cause. Prize giving was set for 3.30pm and the trophies were handed out to the winners, which culminated in the end of the day’s events. The People’s Choice trophy was awarded to the stunning LW Kenworth of Quality Demolition. See the following pages for more highlights.
