Highlights from the second annual 2017 Truck and Machinery Show held at the idyllic Kumeu Showgrounds

Trade day was on Friday, 17 November with the Show ‘n’ Shine truck show reserved for Saturday. More than 100 trucks gathered at the Westgate Mitre 10 for a convoy parade through to the Showgrounds on Saturday morning.

Once the trucks were parked up, the event was open to public and people of all ages flooded through the gates. There was a good array of food and transported related stalls, with a live band pumping out a large array of rock songs from a curtainsider semi-trailer.

Interestingly, this was also a licenced event for refreshments, which was handled with 100% professionalism. More often than not these days, bureaucracy would dictate that having alcohol at such an event would be frowned upon. However, it was proven that when managed correctly, it was certainly no issue.

Swanson Transport had a large array of trucks on display and their crane trucks were set up beside a complicated course of obstacles for crane operators to challenge themselves on. There was also an excavator competition, which ran most of the day.

A superb effort was put in by Matthew Russell from McKenzie Transport who tirelessly took families for rides around the adjoining equestrian track in his impressive International crane truck. At times, the inclement weather had people looking for cover.

However, it did not put a dampener on what was an excellent event. The coveted People’s Choice vote was awarded to Tranzcarr and their heavy haulage Kenworth. Check out some more highlights from the show.
