Invercargill Truck Show 2017
The 2017 Southland Transport Invercargill Truck Parade impressed once again this year
More than 120 trucks lined up for judging with the numbers bolstered by a Classic Truck rally, which joined in on the festivities on the day.
The only dampener on the event, however, was the weather, which at best was overcast in the morning and at worst turned to heavy rain that remained for the entire parade. The streets along the parade route were lined with cars and these proved to be the best vantage point to enjoy the show.
The photographers attempting to capture the event were not so lucky and felt the wrath of the rain and bitterly cold southerly. Highlights of the show included the appearance of one of the rarest restored trucks in the world—a 1940 Dodge Airflow Texco fuel truck.
The Dodge led the parade, and it was the first time the iconic truck had left the cover of Bill Richardson Museum. Another highlight came in the form of 12 Mack trucks and one Kenworth from Protranz Earthmoving, who were part of the Classic Truck Rally that joined the show.
The prestigious King Rig trophy was awarded to Cole Frew and the immaculate K200 Kenworth from Eden Haulage. In fact, it could be said that it was Eden Haulage’s day as they scooped up another five awards: Best Kenworth, Best DAF, Best Fleet, and two Kilometres Travelled categories—300,000 to 600,000km and 600,000 to 1,000,000km. See below for some more highlights from the show.
