Check out these truck pics from the recent Christchurch Truck Show 2016…

Trucking 2016 was again held at the huge Wigram Airforce Museum and adjoining grounds on Saturday, 8 October, and expectations were high after the successful inaugural event in 2014.

The inception of this bi-annual event was to celebrate the professionalism that exists within the transport industry as well as promoting the industry to the general public. There was something for everyone at this event, from trade stands, working displays, a driver simulator, to a kids zone with a giant sandpit and bouncy castle, and of course, the Show and Shine Truck Show.

There was also an evening function and charity auction, which along with the gold coin entry, raised more than $20,000 for two extremely worthy causes: Child Cancer Foundation and Ronald McDonald House. If organisers were concerned that this event may not live up to the success of 2014, they need not have been. Trucking 2016 exceeded all expectations in both public and industry support.

A staggering 338 trucks, most complete combinations with trailers, were registered for the truck show, making it not only the largest South Island show but also arguably New Zealand’s biggest by way of sheer numbers alone.

The support of local Christchurch and Canterbury fleets was outstanding in itself, not to mention the dozens of trucks that came from far and wide to join in the line-up. The gates were open to the general public from 9am and an estimated 20,000 men, women, and children poured into the grounds to view and enjoy the huge spectacle and activities.

Supported by both the NZ Trucking and Road Transport Associations, this event was a massive success on all levels and portrayed the transport industry in an extremely positive light.

Truck of the Show was awarded to SML Logging and their immaculate T659 Kenworth, with dozens of other categories and trophies also up for grabs.
