Penske Australia & New Zealand has appointed Stephen Kelly as general manager of its New Zealand operations, effective immediately
Stephen joined the company in November 2025 and steps into the role following a transition period within the business. Based in Christchurch, he will oversee Penske’s nationwide operations, including its activities across energy solutions, mining, commercial vehicles, defence, marine, and rail sectors.
According to managing director Hamish Christie-Johnston, Stephen has already contributed at branch and leadership level during his short tenure. His background includes senior roles across dealership and original equipment manufacturer environments, with experience spanning sales, parts, and service functions.
Prior to joining Penske, Stephen held positions with Terra Cat and Miles Motor Group, working across both on- and off-highway sectors.
The appointment follows the departure of former general manager Kevin Smith, with the handover process now underway. Penske said Stephen has begun engaging with customers, suppliers, and partners across its network as he transitions into the role.
Penske distributes a range of international brands in New Zealand, including MAN Truck & Bus and engine products such as MTU and Detroit.
The leadership change comes as the company continues to manage operations across multiple sectors linked to transport, infrastructure, and industrial activity in New Zealand.
