Special feature: Ace Rental’s new Ruakākā branch

Ace Rental has opened a new branch in the fast-growing town of Ruakākā, just south of Whangārei

Heavy equipment and attachment hire company Ace Rental are supporting local and bringing more hire gear to the Ruakākā region, with the recent opening of their fourth yard.

Located in the heavy industrial precinct on the outskirts of town, the business has the Marsden Port a few minutes down the road and will be playing neighbour to Meridian’s solar farm, which is currently under construction.

“With our branches in Kerikeri, Dargaville and Auckland, we wanted a location that was smack dab in the middle to act as a hub,” says company founder and director Clem Simpkin. “Ruakākā came up as an obvious choice, as there is a lot of construction going on and we can easily get into Whangārei and Mangawhai if needed.

“We have something like 16 acres here, although we’re only using a relatively small part of it at the moment. The plan is to use this as a central location for some of the specialised equipment and that will allow us to get it out quickly to customers on behalf of our other branches.”

Along with a comprehensive selection of traditional civil construction equipment, Ace Rental is part of the same business group as Robur Hire, allowing the rental team to supply a wide range of both specialist equipment and excavator attachments for a wide range of tasks from dry and wet vacuum work, pipe installations on drainage projects, forestry, utilities, and recycling.

Getting equipment to jobs is no issue for Ace Rental

“The association Ace Rental has with Robur Hire works well, as we can supply such a wide range of unusual attachments and equipment that can dramatically cut down on labour and machine hire costs,” says Clem. “A lot of the stuff we have is different to what can be found at other hire companies.”

Keeping customers on track at the Ruakākā branch with bespoke solutions will be well-known industry rep, Selwyn Tilly, who some may know from Porter Equipment and MIMICO.

“Selwyn has come in as our branch manager and I’m really pleased we’ve got a firecracker like him onboard. He knows the local community and many of our customers already, so although the yard has only recently been completed and stocked with equipment, we’ve been able to hit the ground running.”

To celebrate the opening of the new branch, Ace Rental customers were invited to an open day where food and beverage were available and to watch live demonstrations of equipment by both the Bay Positioning team with their Unicontrol 3D GPS machine control system, and Hawke’s Bay-based Master Machinery, who demonstrated an innovative trailer-mounted wet-vacuum excavation system.

“It’s hard to believe that this is our 20th year in business – but opening a new branch is a good way to celebrate that milestone,” says Clem. “We have an excellent location here, with room to expand in the future and a top team to ensure our customers get the best advice and right equipment for their jobs.”
