Roading machinery: Vögele SUPER1800-5(i)

Vögele’s iconic SUPER 1800 paver has entered a new era with the launch of the SUPER 1800-5(i)

Wirtgen Group’s paving brand, Vögele has released the latest version of its most popular paver globally bring the Super 1800 into the ‘Dash 5’ generation. The SUPER 1800-5(i) is Vögele’s most versatile paver, combining user-friendliness, automation, efficiency and enhanced sustainability with high performance.

An overhaul for the popular all-rounder

The SUPER 1800-5(i) can pave widths between 2.55m and 10m and is ideal for worksites ranging from city centre streets to large scale projects like multi-lane motorways or runways.

Thanks to the new ‘Dash 5’ technologies, the machine is suited to a wide range of applications, with 129 kW of power and a laydown rate of 700 t/h, the manufacturer says.

“The SUPER 1800-5(i) is two steps ahead of its ‘Dash 3’ predecessors,” says Bastian Fleischer, product manager at Vögele. “We have considerably improved the user-friendliness, sustainability, economic viability and automation in this new generation of pavers.”

New operating system

Compared to the Super 1800 ‘Dash 3’ version, the ErgoPlus 5 operating system on the Dash 5 pavers ensures the operator always has full control over the machine and the construction project. This starts with the ergonomic workplace on the operating platform, and extends to the intuitive and simple operation of the operator and screed console, right through to the integrated Niveltronic Plus levelling system and the Niveltronic Plus Assist option.

On the ErgoPlus 5 paver operator’s console VÖGELE, too, all push-buttons are easily identifiable by touch even when wearing work gloves and in darkness. Once a button is pressed, off you go. That’s due to the “Touch and Work” principle. In other words, a function is executed directly – without a need to confirm. This speeds up workflows for the operator which improves efficiency – time is money after all.

The machine also offers more precision steering than its predecessor thanks to Smartwheel. The optional ‘Premium Touch’ display screen allows users to easily monitor and control existing and future digital solutions.

PAC

The Paver Access Control (PAC) function also offer increased efficiency and safety, allowing users to operate basic functions from the ground at the touch of a button, for instance during set up or unloading. This reduces set up time and the frequency that the operator has to climb up and down to get things done.

New automated features

Niveltronic Plus Assist automates the laying of both crown and transverse profiles, reducing errors and saving time and multiple operator inputs. Users specify the crown or transverse grade of a target point and the machine takes over by gradually approaching this value within the defined distance. The screed width can also be automatically controlled along a tensioned wire with the new Edge Control system.

Reduced fuel consumption and emissions

The SUPER 1800-5(i) scores well in this respect primarily due to the optimised Vögele EcoPlus low-emissions package which is much more than just an “ECO” mode. Depending on the application and utilisation of the paver, fuel savings of up to 25% can be achieved. This not only means considerable financial savings, but also has a positive effect on the environment. Because every litre of fuel saved reduces carbon dioxide (CO₂).

Improved material management

The reworked control of the material transport system plays an important role. The auger and conveyors now communicate with one another, ensuring that material feed is even more consistent and precisely coordinated, enabling an optimum head of mix and uninterrupted paving. The optional Power Tunnel also ensures an optimum material height in front of the screed plate.

Optimum pre-compaction

The new Vögele paver achieves optimum pre-compaction in conjunction with standard, or high compaction AB 500 and AB 600 ‘Dash 5’ tamping screeds The Dual Power Shift Tamper enables operators to set the tamper stroke very easily at the touch of a button, ensuring optimum compaction for the most demanding of projects and reducing the time required from the following rollers.
