RAM Trucks marks decade at top of large pickup market

RAM celebrates 10 years as NZ’s top-selling large pickup, with strong demand, local remanufacturing, and a possible SRT TRX return on the horizon

RAM Trucks has recorded its tenth consecutive year as New Zealand’s top-selling large pickup, according to recently released figures. The milestone places the brand at the head of the segment since 2016, a period marked by steady demand for high-capacity utes used for towing, trade work and recreational purposes.

The range sold locally includes the RAM 1500, along with the larger 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty models. Over the past decade the vehicles have become a familiar sight on rural roads, construction sites and boat ramps, reflecting a shift in parts of the market toward larger pickups.

General manager Todd Groves says the result reflected consistent customer demand and the role of the dealer network nationwide. He noted that many buyers return to the brand after earlier ownership, particularly those with regular towing or payload requirements.

An important factor in local availability has been the right-hand-drive conversion process, carried out in Melbourne. More than 35,000 vehicles destined for Australia and New Zealand have undergone remanufacturing there, allowing the trucks to meet local regulations.

Looking ahead, RAM USA has signalled the possible return of the high-performance SRT TRX model. While not confirmed, the vehicle is being considered for the local line-up.

RAM Trucks NZ says it will continue focusing on its existing range while monitoring changes in the market and customer demand.
