Hitachi’s ZAXIS-7 compact excavators arrive in NZ, offering smarter design, stronger digging power, and improved operator comfort for urban sites

Engineered to maximise operator comfort and productivity on contemporary urban construction sites is what CablePrice says underpins the two new Hitachi ZAXIS-7 compact excavators it has recently released to the local market.

The ZX75US-7 features an ultra-short tail swing radius for easy access to confined areas, while the ZX85USB-7 includes a swing boom that enhances efficiency when excavating in tight spaces.

Durability of the ZAXIS-7 series has increased over previous with improvements to crucial components, including the arm and boom. The enhancements involve minimising pinhole tolerances in the boom and arm, effectively reducing lateral movement or wobbling. Additionally, the side plate thickness of the dozer blade has been augmented to enhance its resilience against external impacts.

The ZX75US-7 has an operating weight of 8840kg, while the larger ZX85USB-7 sibling has an operating weight of 9210kg.

Engine and features

The upsized eight-inch monitor gives a 270-degree bird’s-eye view of the machine’s surroundings

The power for both models comes from Yanmar 4TNV98CT turbocharged diesel engines delivering 67.6 horsepower (50.4kW) with 292.9Nm of torque, helping achieve faster cycle times and stronger digging forces compared with the predecessor models.

A generously sized rear engine cover provides convenient access for maintenance tasks. The filters and the fuel/water separator have been grouped together in one area, making them easily accessible at ground level for inspection and replacement.

Additionally, features like remote swing-circle lubrication, along with a factory-installed electric refuel pump, have been incorporated to help streamline daily maintenance.

Attachment piping

Controls at your fingertips

The new ZAXIS-7 series models are factory fitted with Quick-Coupler piping as well as Low and High flow attachment piping and controlled with electric switches on the pilot control levers.

Additionally, there is an available attachment replacement support system that streamlines the process of switching between different work tools. The system allows for the adjustment of attachment flow settings directly from the low-reflective eight-inch LCD monitor, enabling operators to designate and save up to 12 unique settings.

Operator station

Space in the new models has been significantly enlarged, with the controls easy accessible

The cabs have built-in ROPS (Rollover Protective Structures) and OPG (Operator Protective Guards) set to Level I for the top and front windows, with Level II guards optionally available. Cab space in the new models has been significantly enlarged compared to previous generation, with increased visibility to help provide a safe and comfortable working environment. The addition of the wide-view wiper, featuring a parallel link mechanism, increases the window wiping area by over 180% compared with the previous model.

The overhead polycarbonate window can be opened for maximum upward visibility from the operator’s seat and provides an additional egress option in an emergency situation.

To further enhance safety and comfort, CablePrice says Hitachi went the extra mile by incorporating the Aerial Angle peripheral vision camera system, which gives operators an extensive 270-degree bird’s-eye view of the machine’s surroundings on the upsized eight-inch monitor.

A multi-function controller allows for easy navigation through the information menus, such as climate control, radio and Bluetooth connectivity, including hands-free phone use.

Rest breaks are also made easier with a hot and cool drink holder and storage space.

The inclusion of long-lasting LED ambient work lights on the top of the cab, left, right and rear of the machine will ensure a prolonged operational lifespan and improved visibility in challenging conditions. The work lights remain illuminated for 30 seconds after the machine is powered off, enhancing safety when disembarking from the cab during low-light operations.

Both new ZAXIS-7 models come fitted with Hitachi’s telematic tools to monitor machine health. ConSite remotely monitors operational status and alerts owners and operators to upcoming maintenance needs, helping ensure downtime is minimalised.
