Trainee of the Year Certificate
Purpose / Eligibility:
This award recognises an individual’s commitment to self-development and skill achievement through industry training
To be eligible for this award the trainee must:
- Demonstrate commitment to self-development and skill achievement through industry training
- Have completed a minimum of one National Certificate in the training year 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2016
- Be employed in the wood industry at the time of nomination
- Have their nomination supported by the General Manager/Managing Director/CEO or company principal
- NB: Modern Apprentices who are in a continuing Modern Apprenticeships programme or who completed their Modern Apprenticeship during the training year are not eligible
Training Company/Contractor of the Year Certificate
Purpose / Eligibility:
This award recognises a company/contractor that demonstrates a successful and purposeful commitment to people development through industry training. The winner demonstrates a consistent training programme, culture and vision.
To be eligible for this award the company must:
- Demonstrate a successful and purposeful commitment to people development through industry training. This includes a consistent training programme, culture and vision
- Have an industry training history of at least two years.
- Have their nomination supported by the General Manager/Managing Director/CEO or similar of the nominating organisation
- NB: Training provider organisations are not eligible for this award
Forestry Excellence Award
Purpose / Eligibility:
This award recognises an individual who works within one of these areas across the forestry operations chain and demonstrates excellence beyond best practice guidelines
To be eligible for this award the individual must:
- Demonstrate a high quality of work output
- Demonstrate productivity in their work output
- Show evidence of on going training
- Comply with environmental and health & safety practices
- Be recognised by their peers and employers
- Show good character: positivity, honesty and reliability
Roading Excellence Award (Individual) Certificate
Purpose / Eligibility:
This award recognises an individual who demonstrates excellence across a range of skills within the roading establishment chain beyond best practice guidelines.
To be eligible for this award the individual must:
- Demonstrate a high quality of work output
- Demonstrate productivity in their work output
- Show evidence of on going training
- Comply with environmental and health & safety practices
- Be recognised by their peers and employers
- Show good character: positivity, honesty and reliability
Harvesting Excellence Award
Purpose / Eligibility:
This award recognises an individual who demonstrates an excellence across a range of skills within harvesting beyond best practice guidelines

Distribution Excellence Award

This award recognises an individual who works within one of these areas across the distribution chain and demonstrates excellence beyond best practice guidelines.

Wood Processing Excellence Award (Individual) Certificate

This award recognises an individual who demonstrates an excellence across a range of skills within the wood processing chain beyond best practice guidelines.
To be eligible for this award the individual must:
- Demonstrate a high quality of work output
- Demonstrate productivity in their work output
- Show evidence of on going training
- Comply with environmental and health & safety practices
- Be recognised by their peers and employers
- Show good character: positivity, honesty and reliability
Forestry Family of the Year Trophy
Purpose / Eligibility:
This award is open to families with two or more immediate family members working within the industry. This can extend to all parts of the industry including trucks, a mill or the port. When supplying information for each of the criteria below please describe how or why this family is exceptional. What do they do that makes them stand out and be such good role models?
To be eligible for this award the family must:
- Can demonstrate commitment to industry training through progress made or being made and benefits obtained.
- Show willingness to improve productivity and safety using sound processes and practices and can demonstrate a good work ethic.
- Their contribution to the community by involvement in sporting, cultural, mentoring or other similar activity and how they are regarded by their peers.
- Describe the family’s aspirations and where they see themselves in the future.
Contractor of the Year
This award recognises the entire team or company which provides outstanding service to the forestry industry.
To be eligible for this award the team/company must:
- Deliver with conviction in areas of production, health & safety, and human resource management
- Deliver their service with a quality output
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills
- Be endorsed by forest owner or manager
Outstanding H&S Management Award Trophy
Purpose / Eligibility:
This award recognises performance of an individual or company that demonstrates above and beyond the general compliance of health and safety policies and regulations within the forestry industry.
To be eligible for this award the individual/company must:
- Meet the baseline health & safety standards as per the approved code of practice for health & safety in forest operations and best practice guidelines.
- Have possibly managed a specific event with outstanding merit.
- Have possibly demonstrated a new or innovative health & safety product which will be of advantage to industry.
Outstanding Environmental Management Award Trophy
Purpose / Eligibility:
This award recognises performance of an individual or company that demonstrates above and beyond the general compliance of environmental management rules and regulations within the forestry industry.
To be eligible for this award the individual/company must:
- Meet the baseline environmental standards as per the RMA and NZ Environmental Code of Practice as well as NZ Forest Owners Policies and other standards like FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)
- Ideally have managed a specific event with outstanding merit
- Ideally have demonstrated a new or innovative product which will benefit the industry environment
Northland Forestry H&S Group
Purpose / Eligibility:
This award recognises an individual for being a leader in their field of expertise, demonstrating excellence in professional skills, attitude & attributes are recognised by their peers and employers, and is of genuine good character.
To be eligible for this award the individual must have been awarded one of the following certificates from this Northland Forestry Awards:
- Forestry Excellence Award
- Roading Excellence Award
- Harvesting Excellence Award
- Distribution Excellence Award
