MG Motor has launched its new MGU9 dual-cab ute in NZ, expanding the brand’s presence in the light-commercial segment
Three variants – Explore, Explore X and Explore Pro – are now available.
Designed and tested for Australasian conditions, the MGU9 features a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a BorgWarner four-wheel-drive system. The model offers a 3.5-tonne towing capacity and uses a multi-link independent rear suspension system developed specifically for the local market.
Interior highlights include a spacious cabin, a 12.3-inch digital cluster and central display, and multiple storage compartments. The Explore Pro variant adds MG’s “Smart Hatch,” an electronically retractable mid-gate that allows cabin-to-tub access when the rear seats are folded flat. The same variant is also the only model equipped with an electric opening tailgate.
The ute has received a five-star ANCAP safety rating and includes features such as traction control, automatic emergency braking and a high-strength body structure.
Pricing is set at $60,990 for the Explore, $63,990 for the Explore X and $68,990 for the Explore Pro, excluding on-road costs. MG Motor is offering an accessory pack to the first 100 customers who pre-order. The MGU9 is supported by MG’s national dealer network and a seven-year warranty when serviced through approved outlets.
