Based in Rangiora, just north of Christchurch, the company offers around 350 items of small equipment – from six-tonne downwards – to the likes of contractors, tradesmen, builders, home handymen and lifestyle farmers.

Included in this fleet are nine Komatsu mini excavators: three PC15MR-1s, two PC18MR-2s, one PC18MR-3 a PC20-7 and two PC30MR-2s. Other equipment available for hire includes tractors, loaders, mowers, a various range of trailers, light industrial equipment such as pumps and generators, and hand tools.

Rangiora Hire is owned and operated by Wayne and Sandy Hood. They purchased a small hire business 12 years ago and built it up to what it is today, operating from a purpose-built modern premise and offering a complete range of equipment to service the North Canterbury area. Before purchasing Rangiora Hire, Wayne was involved in the contracting and earthmoving industry as well the mining industry in both New Zealand and Western Australia.

He originally purchased a second-hand, low-houred machine from Japan 10 years ago, and its good performance and reliability encouraged him to purchase more Komatsu machines. His most recent ones are a PC18MR-3 and a PC30MR-2.

All Rangiora Hire’s excavators are standard models with quick hitches and three buckets, and are available with tilt bucket, hydraulic auger or hydraulic hammer.

The company’s latest Komatsu digger has come with Komatsu’s KOMTRAX remote monitoring system – now standard on Komatsu utility equipment. Wayne uses it to monitor the condition and performance of the machines.
