With 1000Nm of torque and a bold hybrid backbone, JAC’s new T9 Hunter PHEV made a powerful entrance at Fieldays
JAC used the National Agricultural Fieldays event to reveal its T9 Hunter PHEV – a high-performance, plug-in hybrid ute.
The major Fieldays sponsor says the new ute promises serious punch, pairing a next-gen 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors outputting 1000Nm of torque, which it says outmuscles the BYD Shark 6, one of the latest PHEV utes to arrive on the New Zealand market.
The T9 Hunter is still in pre-launch development, but JAC NZ says the high-torque hybrid system is designed to drive over 100km on electric power alone and a ‘whopping amount more’ in hybrid mode.
The local launch of the ute is still to be confirmed, with JAC NZ general manager Andrew Craw commenting that before committing to the new model that they will be undertaking “loads of Kiwi testing on NZ soil” as well as listening to Kiwi feedback.
“The T9 Hunter PHEV shows what JAC can deliver in the world of electric and hybrid workhorses. But first we want to hear what Kiwis think and get the PHEV out and about on and off NZ roads for rigorous testing,” he says.
That JAC footprint is getting bigger, with three new dealerships opening in Napier, North Shore Auckland, and Hamilton. They join existing sites in Botany, New Plymouth, and Christchurch, plus nationwide support for JAC Light Duty Trucks via the Southpac Truck network – covering both 100% EV and Cummins Diesel models.
