Isuzu retains HCV leadership in 2025

Isuzu New Zealand leads the heavy commercial vehicle market above 3,500kg GVM in 2025

Isuzu New Zealand has retained its position as New Zealand’s leading brand in the heavy commercial vehicle market above 3,500kg GVM for 2025, according to registration data released by the Motor Industry Association.

The result comes in a significantly reduced market. MIA figures show total registrations in the HCV sector above 3,500kg GVM – a category that includes some heavy vans, declined 24.1 percent year-on-year in 2025. Despite the contraction, Isuzu recorded the highest overall registration volume in the segment.

The data also shows Isuzu ranked first in both the light-duty and medium-duty truck categories. The light-duty performance was led by the N Series range, while the F Series accounted for the brand’s medium-duty volumes.

During the year, Isuzu introduced updated N and F Series models to the New Zealand market. The new models meet Euro VI and equivalent Japanese emission standards and incorporate additional safety technologies, including advanced driver assistance systems. Initial shipments of the revised trucks began arriving late in 2025.

General manager David Ballantyne says maintaining overall leadership in a declining market reflected consistent demand across a broad range of applications. He also acknowledged the role of the company’s dealer network and ongoing customer support.
