Long-distance coach operator InterCity Group has added four new buses to its fleet, with the vehicles recently entering service
The company says the buses will operate primarily on long-haul routes between Auckland and Tauranga, and between Auckland and Wellington. InterCity, which is owned by Entrada Travel Group, runs services connecting more than 600 destinations across the country.
The new coaches were bodied in New Zealand by Kiwi Bus Builders and feature an all-white exterior design.
Inside, passengers can choose between premium leather “Gold” seating and standard seats. Both options include reclining seatbacks and USB charging points. The Gold seats also provide additional legroom for longer journeys.
The vehicles are equipped with a 12-speed gearbox intended to provide smoother gear changes during travel. They also include several safety features, such as an Advanced Driver Assistance System designed to help drivers avoid potential hazards. Other safety technologies include lane departure warnings and a digital cockpit display.
According to InterCity chief operating officer Sam Peate, the new buses represent a major investment by the company. He said the operator does not receive public funding or subsidies for its long-distance services.
