Fortress ShearCore's FS45 mobile shear features innovative engineering with an optimised structure designed to deliver long life and high strength-to-weight structure
Trevor Munro knows a bit about the scrap metal business. With decades in the industry behind him, the founder of Metalcorp NZ Ltd knows the importance of equipment brands that can handle the heavy demands his industry places on them.
“We’re pretty hard on our gear, so brands we can rely to deliver long-term performance 24/7 is vital,” he says. One of those brands is Fortress ShearCore, a born and bred US range, which has lifted shear technology to the next level and is now recognised by many as an international benchmark, Trevor says.
Of significance, the company founder Bruce Bacon has a 30-year association with the demolition and scrap metal industries and prior to starting Fortress was closely involved with the development of both La Bounty and Genesis Shear ranges.
“It was that sort of pedigree that influenced us when we purchased our FS45 shear from Fortress just over four years ago, and we’ve never regretted that decision,” says Trevor.
The FS45 is a mobile shear with a rotating head and features innovative engineering with an optimised structure designed to deliver long life and high strength-to-weight structure.
Another thing that Trevor feels strongly about is the importance of international brands having a local representation, so he’s pleased with the appointment of Boss Attachments as the Australasian agent for Fortress ShearCore.
“We’ve always believed in supporting local businesses and having Paul from Boss Attachments on the case certainly helps with our service and maintenance schedule.” That maintenance has recently included replacement of the FS45’s blades with the latest Bladecore technology.
These four-sided specialised NiCore blades are made to outperform typical blades by 60 to 80%. “They cut like a knife through butter and will help us stay at the forefront of the industry,” says Trevor.
Fortress ShearCore’s FS range of shears has been purpose-designed for scrap metal processing, demolition, and demo/reconstruction. It features an enlarged pivot group that eliminates the need for auto guide, which improves performance and durability.
“These features combined with ShearCore’s advanced manufacturing techniques and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities are proven to deliver the power and performance that industry professionals demand,” says Paul Herbison of Boss Attachments.
“We’re really pleased to be associated with this brand. It’s a great fit with our OSA Demolition Range and allows us to provide our clients with the very best solutions to their wider scrap and demolition needs.”
