Boss Attachments brings world-leading solutions for HDD and trenching, including the LaValley Deckhand and Antraquip Milling Heads
The world-leading brands from Boss Attachments can deliver outstanding solutions to a wide range of industry challenges, including horizontal direct drilling or trenching projects.
LaValley Deckhand
LaValley Industries is a recent addition to the Boss range. The family-owned, award-winning company has a proven reputation for the design and manufacture of advanced and innovative materials handling equipment for a wide range of industries, including oil, gas, construction, electricity and horizontal direct drilling (HDD).
Their new LaValley Deckhand attachment has delivered a host of operational benefits for Timaru-based Hadlee & Brunton’s HDD operations.
“We love the safety features and precision that our Deckhand provides”, says Andrew Brunton. “The Deckhand really gives us a superior solution for safely handling 10-inch uncoated pipe around an HDD job site.”
Specialised drill pipe, casings and tooling can be used in a ‘drill and leave’ utility installation method. The total control capabilities of Deckhand allow for fast, precision handling of pipe without the need for additional personnel on site—leading to lower project costs, increased safety and productivity.
“We’re really pleased with the reaction to our LaValley range from clients in Australasia,” adds Paul Herbison from Boss Attachments.
Deckhand originated from Jason LaValley’s vision to make the HDD industry safer. The inspiration, he says, has single handedly changed the industry for the better and was developed while Jason was recovering in hospital from a serious workplace injury.
From that initial inspiration, Deckhand product has become well-known in the industry, with Jason being the holder of many awards and on the board of the International Pipeline & Offshore Contractors Association (IPLOCA).
Antraquip milling heads
When it comes to trenching solutions, users should consider the versatile Antraquip Milling Head. The Boss range includes models from 1.5 to 120-tonne models that can be sized to cut rock to 220mpa+, with the company having a full range available for hire.
During the last 30 years Antraquip has been involved with some of the most impressive, challenging and rewarding rock-cutting projects on the planet. These include a large number of New Zealand and Australian projects, which include Puhoi motorway, the Kaikōura KiwiRail tunnel lowering, Auckland’s Central Interceptor line and City Rail Link, Snowy River hydro scheme in Sydney, and the Melbourne Metro network.
The key benefits that Antraquip helps deliver are low noise and no micro cracking of the area outside the excavation line, according to Boss.
“There is also less over-break and higher production,” says Paul. “Cracking from other methods can reach up to two metres, causing issues with existing infrastructure, piles and foundations. So, if you have noise and vibration constraints, the Antraquip solution is a no-brainer.”
