Deputy PM David Seymour visited TDX in Christchurch, discussing industry trends, innovation, and economic outlook
Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour visited Christchurch-based equipment distributor TDX recently, meeting with staff and touring the company’s demonstration facilities during a brief stop in the city.
Seymour, who was accompanied by local ACT MP Laura McClure, was hosted at TDX’s head office by chief executive Greg Slaughter, alongside founder Alister McLaughlin and director Mike McKessar.
The visit included a tour of the company’s Volvo demonstration area, where new and upcoming machinery is tested and presented to customers. TDX staff outlined recent developments in heavy equipment, including updates to excavators and loaders, as well as the introduction of electric machinery into New Zealand fleets. The shift towards lower-emission equipment was noted as an emerging trend across sectors such as construction, quarrying and waste management.
TDX CEO Greg Slaughter was very complimentary of David’s visit. “It’s great to have the deputy prime minister take time out of his schedule to come visit us, TDX and understand our business,” he says. “I think the staff enjoyed having David here and learning more about what’s happening, some of the challenges the government is facing and their plans for the future.”
The deputy PM was also shown one of the company’s articulated dump trucks during a short demonstration within the testing area, providing an overview of equipment commonly used in large-scale earthmoving and quarry operations.
The visit concluded with a discussion between the government officials and TDX staff on current economic conditions and the outlook for industries including construction, mining, transport and forestry.
TDX says the visit provided an opportunity to outline operational challenges and industry conditions directly to government, while gaining insight into current policy priorities affecting the sector.
